Q: What kind of gas to put in 2000 Honda Prelude?
Gas is really expensive now a days. Almost all kinds of gas are at least $3 or around that range. I was just wondering what kind of gas to put in my 2000 Honda Prelude. Its an automatic and it has about 104,000 miles on the car. I know on the gauges, it says to use unleaded premium fuel, but gas is just so expensive. So if I used plus instead, would I damage the engine? Will everything be fine or can i potentially cause problems that would be very expensive to fix? I would just really like to know! Thanks for anyone who takes the time to answer!

A: If your gas cap cover (the body cover) lifts and says “unleaded fuel” then you can use whatever you want (regular or super). But cars designed for Super gas will have some indication INSIDE of the gas cap cover to use super / premium / or 91 octane gas.

This is pretty much true of any car so to remind new car owners (borrowers) what to use.

One poster noted that putting the wrong gas will damage your engine. NOT TRUE. You car (any car since 1996) has been fitted with knock sensors. In simple terms your car will adjust itself if you use cheaper gas. But that’s not a bad thing, if you never really drive your car hard. For the most part, engine only knocks when you accelerate hard anyway (or any kind of heavy loading – like climbing up hill).

Try this experiment: Running your tank really low. Then get about $5 of regular gas. See if you can detect any changes in power. If you don’t like it you can run the gas out on HWY in about 30 to 40 miles. Or you can just fill the gas tank full of super (and dilute the regular gas).

Just so you know – what is engine knock? Engine knock sound like that noise when you shake a paint spray can. It only happens when you accelerate (or climb up hill).

Good Luck

My alternator stopped working recently and i was wondering what other alternators would fit and work in my honda prelude 89 model. would a honda civic 90 model work?

A: No,It is different, Prelude Alternators are not hard to find, just replace the original.

Q: What car has a motor that can fit into a 1992 Honda Prelude SI?
I have a 1992 Honda Prelude and I need a motor and transmission for it. I need to know what car has a motor that I can put into it. It is suppose to have a 4 cylinder, 2.3 liter engine. Please Help me out. Thanks
Its a manual transmission.
Also I dont want to use a motor coming from another prelude, because its hard to find.

A: Well the preludes use the f22(2.2L SOHC), h23(2.3L DOHC), and the h22(2.2L DOHC Vtec)
The best one out of the bunch is the h22.
i’ve found that motor for 1,800 including tranny.
if your looking to swap your engine, the h22 is the one to go with.

Q: Where can i find a 1989 Honda Prelude motor or engine?
My boyfriend has a 1989 Honda Prelude and the engine or motors tore to crap (idk if engine and motor is the same thing, hopefully it is.) but he’s in dire need to know where one’s at. Please if anyone knows where to find one that is in excellent or good condition, i would greatly apprectiate it. Thanks!

A: www.google.com
::Search::
Junkyards [Your city] Your state] [Area Code]
I.E.:: Junkyards Las Vegas, NV 89102
Call and ask, but you need to find what motors will fit into his car in the first place. Also, if no one has them, then it’s time to google again. Just look up 89 prelude motors.
If you guys have limited knowledge already, then you’re better off buying another car. You won’t be able to swap a motor in, unless you get help. You go to a shop to put a motor in then you’ll be paying more in motor work when you could just buy a whole nother car.
Good luck, haz fun. =]

Q: I about to get a 1998 Honda prelude and need some advice to increase it hp.?
I am a 16 year old and my parents just got me a 1998 honda prelude. Its 4-speed automatic. 165,891 miles. I wanted to know what type of perforance parts should i put into it.
2.2 v-tec. I don’t think i want to spend money on a new engine.
What do you mean 2 years tops and then your gonna have reliability issues?

A: I wouldnt invest too much considering the mileage. Just add an intake, nice exhaust. Thats it. If ur getting a good deal go in for a body kit and some decals. Dude u got 2 years tops and then your gonna have reliability issues. Think about it.

Q: How many miles can a 5th Gen Honda Prelude have on it before it starts having problems?
I am thinking of buying a 5th Gen Honda Prelude(1996-2001). I was just wondering how many km’s it can run before it starts to act up and have problems? 300k? higher ? lower?

A: if you take care of a car and do maintenance it can last for as long as you want it to, sure you might spend more in maintenance than you would in a new car but still.

Q: what would make a honda prelude burn up mufflers?
I have a 1990 Honda prelude its my old car. I replaced the muffler 4 times in a year with the baffle type mufflers and it kept burning them up. I finally said to hell with it and had the resonater cut out and replaced the pipe with 3″ pipe and an Apexi N1 muffler. Could the engine be running too rich? I also replaced the converter with a 3 way one and it melted the mesh inside it. I bought an oxidation type converter it hasnt melted it yet.

A: The engine may not be running long enough to burn out any condensation. Let it heat up . Also the after market mufflers do not last near as long as the factory installed ones.

Q: How much would a paint job be for an 88 honda prelude?
I just bought a 1988 honda prelude and i was wondering how much a paint job would be? I know price ranges at different places. Its red and im changing it to black. Any ideas? Thank you so much :)

A: well for a nice normal black it would cost an average shop around $500-$800. If it has rust then they need to remove it and fix it before they paint it which would then cost around $1000-$2000 depending on how much rust there is

Q: can a honda prelude be converted to rear wheel drive?
I own a 98 honda prelude, and it is a very fun car, I just wish drifting could be a lil easier.

A: No it is not something that you would want to try.

Q: How much would you pay for a 1997 Honda Prelude?
I bought a 1997 Honda Prelude last year. It’s red and in great condition. 1997 was the first year of their latest body style which stopped being produced in 2001. I have a feeling that I’ll be able to get more out of it then what I paid for it since they are so rare and seem to be very popular. It just went over 100,000 miles. I’m not telling how much I paid for it. So how much would you pay for this car? Intelligent answers please…
I’m glad I don’t plan on selling it for a while because I actually paid $8,000 for it and see them being sold for even more. You people are cheap! Just kidding, it’s good to be stubborn when buying a car. Keep up the good work.

A: I am a honda fan myself and the reason I like them so much is because the price drops after 100,000 miles but the cars are good for much more. It may be worth 7500 tops (auto trader has them from 500-12,000 depending on aftermarket work etc.), but it should be worth it to you, to keep it. Put some wheels on it and it could feel like a new car to you. I think that you should sell a car before 100,000 miles and buy cars that have a few years in them before they get to that point. Or buy one with over 100,000 for cheap and use it as a commuter car, just don’t put too much $ in to it. As far as it being rare, you may want to hang on to it for 15 more years to get any real money out of it. Cars are the worst investment you can make, as long as you look at it as a cost you must incur to get from place to place and NOT AN INVESTMENT. You should be very pleased with the prelude.

Q: What subwoofer would fit under my 2001 Honda Prelude’s passenger seat?
I am looking to put a powered small subwoofer somewhere in my 2001 Honda Prelude. Id like to keep my factory head unit and keep the subwoofer out of the trunk. I am reading that some people put it under the passenger seat (using a low profile powered subwoofer). Has anyone had any luck with a certain brand and model with a prelude? Does the factory head work with aftermarket powered subwoofers?

Thanks!

A: Unfortunately, there are very few manufacturers who make a subwoffer that small. when you can find them, their sound quality is terrible. take into consideration that speakers use magnents and generally the bigger the magnet the more power and you cant fit much under a seat. If you can stand to loose your spare tire, thats a great place for a sub.

Q: How many miles has been driven before rebuilding a Honda Prelude engine?
What is an average Honda Prelude engine’s life before requiring a rebuild?

A: id agree ive seen them last 300-400 thousand miles and more depends how they were kept up and if the oil changes timing belts and fluids were changed regularly could get over 500k

Q: where do i add transmission fluid on a 1987 honda prelude?
I have an 1987 Honda Prelude. And I was wondering where do I add the transmission fluid? I must be blingd because i cant find it.

A: your not blind it just real damn hard to see it. way the hell down towards the bottom behind the radiator. theres a tiny dipstick, pull that out and use a funnel with a hose on it to fill the fluid through the dipstick hole.

Q: how much to rebuild a 93 honda prelude engine?
Thinking of buying this 93 honda prelude sr with 144 000 kilometers that needs a rebuilt engine because the owner neglected to change the timing belt on time. Why would the broken timing belt cause this much damage? If i was to buy it, what would need to be repaired and how much would it cost to get it back on the road. I’m thinking of offering $900.00. Would it be worth it.

A: Don’t waste your time with another engine!!! This is actually a low mileage engine. Not changing the timing belt on a Honda spells disaster, but it’s not THAT horrible. You will need a new timing belt, water pump, Timing belt pulleys, head gasket set. You will need to remove the cfylinder head, and take it to a good machine shop for examination. Replacement valves on Honda’s are about $20-30 each. They can clean the head, examine it, install new valves where required, and return it to you ready to go for about $150-200. You can do the re-assembly yourself with a good Haynes manual and a set of hand tools. Honda engine blocks, especially the older ones that are cast iron, are pretty much bullet-proof. The cylinder heads usually absorb all the damage. Use ONLY genuine Honda parts and coolant, though. Good luck!!

Q: How Do I Convert A Honda Prelude into a Ferrari, Lamobohgini, etc?
My father just got me a Honda Prelude, I don’t know the year on it, cause he doesn’t even know, so if anybody out there can help me convert this honda into something different or exotic would be great!

A: I would just recommend doing a conversion on the lights like a lambo or ferrari and a widebodykit
