Q: It was 109 degrees today and my 1988 Mazda rx7 had water boiling in the water reserve. Is it a bad thermostat?
My car didn’t register real hot, but maybe a little hotter than usual. I had plenty of antifreeze and water. When I stopped driving after 45 minutes I heard water boiling in the water reserve and hose. What caused the water to be so hot?

A: MINE NEVER DOES THIS BUT IF YOU HAD WATER IN THE COOLANT IT WOULD EXPAND IN THE HEAT MAKING IT OVERFLOW BECOUSE WATER BOILS FASTER UNDER PRESSURE. IT MIGHT BE THE THERMOSTAT. OR YOU MIGHT HAVE JUST ADDED A LITTLE BIT TO MUCH WATER OF TOO MUCH ANTIFREEZE. WHAT EVER IT TURNS OUT TO BE FIX IT BECOUSE THERE ISN’T ENOUGH RX-7 “FC3S” ANY MORE SO I HOPE YOU KEEP THIS SEXY CAR ALIVE FOR SOME TIME. I HAVE AN 1987 GXL 2+2. IF YOU WANNA SEE IT GO TO MYSPACE AND I AM ” TORMENTOR” … AND REMEMBER IT AIN’T A MOTOR UNLESS IT IS A ROTOR.

Q: what do u think about an 89 mazda rx7 convertible?
looked on auto trader to see what kind of cars were in its class as far as convertibles go. Cars that were in its class were cadillac allantes, mustangs, firebird, and 325 bmw
would you consider this a car that has a high chance of being stolen or tampered with,? or would you not worry and park it any old where anytime.

A: Any rotary-engined covertible is going to attract the interest of those with evil in their hearts and mind. Thank something secular that Honda never made a convertible Civic or Integra! Also, I hope you do know they’re fuel hungry and a bit harder to maintain than many other cars.

Q: How much longer would a Mazda RX7 FD3S if it was driven 82,000 miles already?
How much longer will the rotary engine last, I mean it going to be my first car and it 17,000.
Don’t know about you guys but thats a lot of money and I need to know if the car is reliable!
I want answers from people who actually owned this car and know what they are talking about!
The overall condition of the car is great, just the miles is like messing with me! Please help!!!!!!

A: The engine could last over 200K miles for you, but it depends totally on how it was maintained by the previous owner(s).

The previous owner may have used the right oils and driven it properly to control carbon build-up…or not… Rotary engines are very intolerant of neglectful owners. They can last a very long time in the hands of a knowledgeable owner…or a very short time in the hands of most driving “Sheeple” out there.

When buying a used rotary-engined car you should budget for a new motor. You may not need it but it’s best to assume you do.

If you take it to a rotary engine specialist you can have them run a compression and vacuum leak-down test to determine whether all the rotor’s seals are good. If so you’re probably in good shape.

Q: How much is a 87 Mazda RX7 worth? It belongs to my sister. ?
She doesn’t think it’s worth anything. Been in the garage the last 15 years and not driven. Would there be a problem with the motor if it sits that long? It has a new paint job. I think even a new motor would make it a good vehicle. I need to let her know it’s worth selling. She’s having financial problems and needs top dollar. Is it worth fixing up with a new motor? Not sure about mileage, but it still looks new.
I need a dollar amount, not just ‘alot’ or ‘not much’. I don’t think Kelly book goes that far back. I tried once.
I went to KBB and it goes back to 1989. What would a collector pay?

A: NADA is just like KBB, but they have a classic cars section for that 87 RX-7.

It sounds like it costs at least $10,000 since it is in like new condition.
Ones in bad condition with high mileage usually go for $3000.

The Engine is a rotary engine, which are supoosed to be driven every day and not sitting. Most probably, the engine will have problems starting. Before trying to start, I would replace sparkplugs, distributor cap , get an oil change and replace oil filter and battery.

Q: What additional changes do I need to make to have my 1986 Mazda RX7 pass the Texas Emissions Test?
I have completely replaced the exhaust system, including a new catelytic converter. Also the engine has had a major tuneup by a Mazda Service Dept.

A: If you read the emissions paper they tell which areas failed. They normally give you a booklet that will tell you what to change out. Normally the EGR system is not working. Then look at your 0-2 sensor. Keep receipts for all parts and repairs done. Normally they will give you a waver after $300.00 is spent. Check with the emissions people to be sure.

Q: any one know the wire color codes for a mazda Rx7 convertible(1990) in particular the audio system?
need to find something or someone who can tell, show or send me something that tells what each of the colors represents as far as where they go(you know,a color schematic) so I can decipher this rats nest of wires and get this baby running and playing proper.

A: Yep the man with the answer is MAZDA DEALER

Q: How much do you think my 1992 Mazda Rx7 is worth?
It’s done 60k is twin turbo, a jap import, black, fuel flap is broken (but mendable) ok condition for age, has tax & few months MOT.

A: probably about 2 grand at most being realistic

Q: How hard is it too take out the governor out of my 92 mazda rx7?
I top out at 160 km/h and im sick of it!
i want it out.. is it hard? or is it expensive to get taken out?
thanks.

A: 1st How in the world did u get ahold of a 92 Rx-7 bc they didnt sell those in the states to my knowledge?

2nd Go to www.pocketlogger.com and get a new ECU

Q: How much does a 1988 mazda rx7 cost on the streets, 2nd gen?
I have on and i want to sell it, it is in good conditions, but it has over 120,000 miles on it, it turns on good, and runs well, of course it is a rotary engine, what is the average price, and is ebay the best place to sell it?

A: With ebay, cars, especially sports cars, are irresistible bait for scammers. Sure a lot of people successfully sell cars on ebay, but you’re going to have that problem to deal with.

Specify in big, bold letters “LOCAL PICKUP ONLY, BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SHIPPING.” You’ll limit your legit bidders to two types of people: those who are prepared to handle transporting the car, and those who can’t fucking read.

Anyhow, how much the car is worth depends on a lot. There are no good guides that will tell you how much you can get for this car. When a car has a cult around it, all price guides fail utterly.

The guy with the friend who couldn’t sell one for 1500 may not be telling the whole story, but likely that’s partly due to where he was trying to sell it. Demand for sports cars varies wildly by location. (Try finding a Miata in the southwest, for example)

It also varies more by condition than a normal car would. If it looks flawless, and runs as perfectly as it ever did, you can probably ask in the mid-high 4 figures for it. If it’s a rust bucket that only runs “well” if you’re both ignorant and optimistic, you’d be to get mid-high 3 figures for it.

If you live in or near a major city, Craigslist is probably the best place to sell it.

Q: Where can I buy a 1986 Mazda RX7 engine near Los Angeles?
I need to buy an engine as soon as possible. Please some one help!

A: a junkyard will probably be your best bet for one that old.

Q: Which car should I get the Mazda Rx7 or the Nissan 300zx?
I wouldn’t mind some other suggestions on cars.

A: 1990 to 1996 300ZX or RX-7 1993 to 1995 do you realise how hard it is to repair old sports cars? I performed many engine replacements on twin turbo rx-7 cars under warranty and it was expensive. Out of warranty $8,000 every time you detonate a Apex seal. I have worked for both Mazda and now Nissan Old Z-32’s are getting where they need all kinds of repair before they are safe at high speed too. Sports cars are expensive to insure. RX-7 may get 10 miles a gallon around town and only 17 highway Old Z-32 300zx not all that much better the non turbo can get 21 highway. And about 15 in town. I don’t know how old you are or the extent of your mechanical abilitys. Think a much newer car especially if your going for higher education. A small Nissan Versa Or Mazda 3 might be a better choice because it is in warranty.

Q: What is the humming noise when I press on the gas in my 1988 mazda rx7?
I’ve had it 6 yrs. and I only noticed it after I had some work done on it.

A: wheel bearing?

need more info…

Q: Would you get a Mazda RX7 FD as a first car?
I really like this car, but from what I heard before, these engines only last from like 100K to 200K miles! Is this true? I doubt I will be racing, just need a car to go around places. Would you get this car? Are rotary engines reliable??
And if u get a car that has a twin turbo already in it
and has been driven 88k already, how much longer do u think it will run till u need a new engine?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.fateback.com

Q: How much is the 1993 Mazda rx7 stock cost these days?
Im interested of buying one myself and they are hard to find…

A: A stock Rx-7 is extremely difficult to find but if you do happen to find one they usually run anywhere from 13k-25k depending on the mileage and the tranny.

Q: well i was looking at drifting cars and people suggested a mazda rx7 i found a 1990 but its a convertible?
is this a good car to have for drifting?

A: a convertible is a poor choice because not having a roof
makes the car flex and bend more than a regular car.
