Q: How much horse power and torque could I get out of a factory RX-8 engine after I add some aftermarket parts?
I am planning to get an RX-8 and just wondering how much power I can pull out of the 1.3L rotary engine?

I hope to install a turbo with a boost controller and timer.
Cold air intake
Magnaflow exhaust

And of course anything you can think of that would help?

Again just wondering how much power I can manage to get out of it?

A: The RX-8 engine is a high compression engine. Mazda dropped the turbo chargers and went to high compression engines to make the package more reliable with out sacrificing horse power.
Before you get to far into this project, go to the RX8 club and read up on how to improve performance.
The rotary engines have a pretty flat torque curve. It is not designed for launches, but for coming out of corners fast.

Q: Is a RX-8 a good car for a 16 year old girl?
I’m a girl looking at getting a RX-8 for my 16th birthday. I’ve heard some good and some bad about the car, but i’m looking for some more info. Thanks for any help!

A: Taybaby, I don’t know if you will understand this but the people on here are trying to save you from alot of heartache. At 16 this is not the appropriate car for anyone. It is an incredibly fast almost track ready car. I owned 1, i know. The gas mileage isnt good….16-18 mpg. It takes premium fuel which is 30-40 cents more per gallon. A mazda 3 is very sporty and would be a better choice to learn on for a few years. The RX-8 is not an unsafe car in the hands of an experienced driver, it gets 4 and 5 stars for safety in every category, But most people drive like idiots….not saying you do but you are just learning and there are alot of people on the road who will challenge a car like this because it is so exotic, fast, rare, etc. We don’t want to see you in the trauma bay at the hospital! Ok?

Q: Is there a way for me to get a brand new rx-8 in the philippines?
Mazda philippines only offers the mazda 3, 6 and tribute. Is there anyway i could get one?

A: sure there is a way, bout the only place to drive is in the city .

Q: I have $15G to buy my first car, I’ve looked at an RX-8, a pre-08 WRX, or a 05-07 Mustang. Which one?
I’ve done lots of research and I’m concentrating on looks, performance, gas mileage and safety.

A: Mustang

Q: Is it a reasonable / possible to drop a vette engine in an Rx-8 and if so what model engine?
Mazda rx-8 with a 1.3 liter rotary engine with 200 something horses, Vette engine has a helluva lot more than that

A: It’s possible but why would you want to. Rotary engines kick butt. I had an old RX4 many years ago and it would smoke V8’s all day and twice on sunday. BTW…the RX8 has a 2.6 engine with S.A.E. net HP of 232.

Q: Is it hard and costly to maintain an RX-8?
Since it has a rotary engine, does it cost more to take care of the car?
I don’t have to change the engine like the old RX-7 right?
I’m planning to buy a used one but are they reliable?
What are the consequences

A: I don’t believe the RX8 is any more costly to maintain than most other cars — that is until the engine begins to see some internal wear on the apex seals. Then it’s major bucks to overhaul. Mazda body parts are high and RX8 hardware is LOONEY-TOONS high so don’t dent it. Always make sure the suspension is top notch to avoid excessive tire wear as they can be tricky to set-up and align properly. A well maintained RX8 can be as reliable as any other car (and you will be able to pass most any other car on the highway as well).
Zoom zoom….

Q: i was just wondering… how does a lowered rx-8 (or any sports car) go up steep hills?
i was just wondering… how does a lowered rx-8 (or any sports car) go up steep hills? I live in san francisco, and i’m planning to customize my car, smart to lower it and add side skirts… w/e?

A: steep hills aren’t a problem. Speed bumps and potholes will kill your skirts though

Q: How does an Rx-8 handle in snow?
Im thinking on buying an Rx-8. But I live in wisconsin and I plan to drive it year around (since it will be my only car.)

Does anybody have one or have driven one in the winter snowy conditions? how does it handle? Can I get through our winters? or is it more of a southern car?

A: Don’t do it.

Besides being terrible in snow, if you let it sit for more than a few days in the winter, you will have to have it jumped.
Rotary engines are famous for little quirks like that.

Q: How Do I Change a Fuse on my 2004 Mazde RX-8?
I removed the cover to the fuse box and there is no diagram telling me which fuse goes to what like there is supposed to be. Also, when I use these plastic tweezers to try to pull out a fuse it won’t come out.

I have tried looking through the manual but it doesn’t provide the diagram. I have also tried searching online but have not had any luck.

A: sometimes the newer fuses that hav’nt been changed much are stuck almost like they are glued in, if you still can’t get it out buy wiggeling it then you can go to the auto part store and buy a chilton auto manual on your car for like 15-20 dollers, if you don’t want to spend any money call the dealer and ask for a maintenece tech, he will tell you for free. I would buy the book it’s good to have on hand anyway…..

Q: If i bought an MAdza rx-8, how much do u think it would cost to get custom red leather interior seats?
just wondering the general price range of getting custom leather seats 4 this kind of car.

A: Well, you can get it stock with Red seats(and black). I have driven an RX-8 with Red and Black seats.

But the cost for custom seats would be over $800.

Q: What happen to the Mazda Zoom Zoom driving experience, where we can test drive maita, and mazda 3/ 6 and RX-8?
It let you test drive and it was in Miami, FL and other states and had a nice circuit race and track race and basic racing going into a curve and coming out.
There was a event all over the states where you can test drive RX-8 and drive them fast, and miata had a time attack lap to see, how fast you can drive and if can win the time attack the pro driving mazda made on the board.

A: I drive them every day and get paid for it!

Q: When buying a sports car and that being your only way of transportation would a 2005 Mazda rx-8 be a good buy?
I really want this car, I’m understand it takes special care to take care of a rotary engine? But does it require alot of maintenance? I understand it burns oil and only perferred oils are to be used? But how long would the engine last buying it used? Would it break down alot? or should I start looking into a more reliable sports car?

A: Just keep the oil changed every 2500 to 3500 miles Synthetic oil if it is recommended Keep extra oil with you. Rotarys DO NOT BURN OIL!!! OIL IS INJECTED IN THE COMBUSTION CYCLE ON TOP OF THE ROTORS TO KEEP THE APEX SEALS LUBE, IT IS PART OF THE DESIGN OF THE ENGINE. The help keep the engine right you should pre-mix 2 stroke oil in the fuel to have it last a bit more, but not the cheap crap go on RX8club.com and search premix and they let you know a good brand to use. Rotarys dont break down alot unless you abuse them and dont maintain them. If you not willing to keep up with the needs of a Rotary engine then yes look into a different Car… As for parts go the other guy is right there kind of hard to find but when you do they cost a bit more than other cars would look up Mazdatrix and RacingBeat for 2 of the U.S. part sources and there are a few aftermarket companys mainly in Japan that does for the RX8 as well. As also said by the other guy not everyone will work on a Rotary cause they have no Ideal about them so they stay away from them. If your a do it yourselfer than you’ll figure it out and be happy that your doin it and if not find a specialty Rotary shop that knows what there doin. Hop on the Forums and READ so you’ll know.

Q: How long will the 2004 Mazda RX-8 engine last before it starts having problems/breaking down.?

A: If she’s driven < 1500 miles per year, it'll last about 4 years with no maintenance. If she's taken care of with QUALITY parts & lubricants.... 20 years/ 250,000 miles.

Q: Would buying a high miled RX-8 and getting an engine rebuild be cheaper than buying a low miled RX-8?
Like when things start breaking down get an engine rebuild. Would that be more problematic or expensive?

A: I think you would end up at around the same margin, but with the rebuild option you at least get a longer warranty.

Q: I have a mazda RX-8 want to have it painted the exact color offered on the Aston Martin DB9 how can I do this?
Want the grey-blue (ish) color. Please help!

A: A very nice car…my best friend has an 06. He never got snow tires for it. lol Go to http://tcpglobal.com/autocolorlibrary/showimg.asp and they have all the paint codes there. Nice color, I like blue…..
