Q: I have a ‘00 mitsubishi eclipse & it wont start. Everytime I try 2 start it it makes a clicking/knocking noise
I have a ‘00 mitsubishi eclipse and it wont start. Everytime I try to start it it makes a clicking/knocking noise. Also, the connector on the negative side of the battery is starting to corrode but the battery is still working like new so I don’t know if this has anything to do with it. Can anyone help me?

A: it has everything to do with it!!!!

clean both battery terminals with baking soda and a tooth brush with some water – then a wire bush – and reconnect it.

Q: How popular is a 91 Mitsubishi eclipse?
I have a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse Gsx Turbo. It has an oil leak on the bottom. I am trying to decide to sell it or repair it. If I sell it, I want at least 1k for it. I only have to fill up the tank once a month and that is because I do not want it less then a quarter tank. I love this car except that it is an automatic.

My question, is how popular of a car is this? Especially being a 1991. It is a 4 cylinder sports car.

A: First, it’s not a sports car. It’s nothing like a sports car. Sports cars are lightweight (your GSX is 3100lbs, barely lighter than my V8 mustang), rear wheel drive (GSX is AWD, all other eclipses are FWD), 2 seat, 2 door (eclipse is 2 door, but 4 seats) roadster (that means convertible ONLY). Now, as for how popular it is, depends on how old you are. They are very popular among young kids, in the 16-19 age range, mainly because you can go relatively fast for relatively cheap (although you’ll spend a fortune repairing it when you do go faster). Once you get into 25+ year olds, it’s just another old, ragged out economy car with a hairdryer (turbo).

Q: What transmission fluid for 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
I don’t have the manual. 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS automatic transmission. I went to NAPA autoparts and they said go to dealer, like if it was some type of sacred fluid.

A: Yes they Are right Chrysler/mitsubishi transmissions take ATF 4 are a bit more expensive but well worth it. Advice? buy from the dealer

Q: How difficult is it to replace the drivers side power window motor in a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse?
its a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt…v6 engine…i am just curious how time-consuming it is in general to replace the motor for the power window…i already have purchased the part, just trying to see what i should expect….thanks in advance

A: If you are replacing the regulator, the window must come out. The outer door trim comes off to make a larger opening to pull the window out. The window guide cups must be removed to get the window out. (the round threaded retainers are fun to remove). It’s about a 3 hour job and I would recommend having the dealer do it for you. An after market garage is likely to F it up. This is not an easy one!

Q: I need a rear main seal replaced on a Mitsubishi Eclipse, what do I do?
I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse and I need a rear main seal replaced. Who do I trust to do this complicated of a job? How much is something like this going to cost? I’m aware it will be a big job and cost quite a bit and that’s why I need a fair job done. I work at a low paying factory and I can bearly pay for everyday things so I need to know I’m not paying obsence amounts of money to fix it. I’ve asked people where do I go but not many people know places that do this sort of work. The car has numerous other problems with the exterior, interior and the engine. I find this thought to be the biggest job I need done and the most pressing. Please give your opinions and help. Thank you.

A: Hi Sarah,

I’m guestimating approx 500 to 800, depending on who does the repair and where you live, also this will depend on if it’s an automatic transmission or standard.

Ypu’ll get a better price of course with an independent, the best thing to do is call around for an estimate.

It’s not that difficult of a job (technically speaking), just a big one because the transmission will have to come out.

There is another danger, albiet a small one but real none the less.

I’m assuming that the rear main is leaking oil, and that’s why it needs replaced. I’ve seen some of these where the seal has actually grooved the crankshaft, and when a new seal is put in the leak is still there. If this is the case, the amount of dollars and work would not justify the value of the car.
(I hate be the bearer of bad news)

Depending on how bad it’s leaking you may want to forego the repair, but there is always the danger of the seal completely failing and causing a major leak and possibly ruining the engine if it happens while driving.

Q: Will the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder be available in Australia? Can I get it imported?
My question is…
Will the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder be available in Australia before 2009?
If not, can I get it imported for a reasonable price?

A: With money anycar can get imported. However, the Australian version of the eclipse is I believe the Magna (I could be very wrong here). I would ask an Australian based company like RPW. The guys over there are pretty smart.

Q: How do you change the digital display to read MPH instead of KPH in the 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT?
I just purchased a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT. I have tried searching the internet for the answer, but I have had no luck. I even went through the owner’s manual, and it simply said, “You can change the display between MPH and KPH,” but it doesn’t tell how to do it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

A: It’s brand new go to the dealership and get them to fix it. It’s still under warrenty. But to answer your question if you take the instrument cluster out there should be a small screw that will have MPH KPH next to it. If you take the screw out of the KPH and put it in the MPH one it should do the trick but I think if it’s that new why not have the dealer do it for free?

Q: how do i stop my 01 mitsubishi eclipse spark plug cover from popping up when i drive?
i have a 2001 mitsubishi eclipse and the other day i took out the far left spark plug out and checked it to see if it needed to be replaced, i put the plug back in and the cover back on top. but now after i drive for a little while the cover starts to pop up. the longer and farther i drive, the higher up it comes. why is this happening and how do i stop it from doing this? if anybody can help me out i will really appreciate it. thx.

A: You need to remove the valve cover and replace the spark plug tube gaskets that are found inside. They get hardened and leak oil down into the spark plug area. The oil makes the plug wires swell up which causes them to pop off. Don’t use after market plug wires, they pop off even when new and dry. Only use NGK spark plugs or you will get misfires. You can save money on the spark plugs by buying them at Auto Zone or Advance Auto, just make sure they are NGK’s.

Q: what transmissions will work with my mitsubishi eclipse?
my 1993 mitsubishi eclipse gs has a bad transmission (F4A2-2). the car has no get up and go it doesn’t have a high stall torque converter but it wont move until it hits like 3000 or more rpm, and it takes off very slow. i cant find a transmission rebuilding kit for it. im just trying to find out what other types of transmissions will fit onto my engine (4G63). e-mail me to see pictures and more detailed specs.

A: You’re pretty limited to the transmission that is designed for your car, man. You’re stuck with a FWD 4g63 transmission design, which pretty much means that any of the other DSM’s that fit that description have the same transmission. The AWD ones will have a transfer case attached, and I believe the axle splines are different.

Your best bet is to get a used transmission from the same year/model car.

Edit: The 2g non-turbo DSM’s were equipped with the Chrysler 420a. The Asker’s model comes equipped with the non-turbo version of the 4g63.

Q: Where can I get a center cap to my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
Does anyone know where an auto salvage yard with a 1995-99 Mitsubishi eclipse is near or in Michigan? I need a center cap to my wheels and I need a rubber thing that levels my hood. I have one but I need another. Please If you know any place or one that has what I’m looking for let me know. Thanks!

A: Mitsubishi dealership

Q: What is a cheap and easy way to get horsepower out of my mitsubishi eclipse?
I have a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse GST(turbo) and i want more horsepower. I want something that will give me about 30-50 more but don’t have a lot of money. Do you know what i could do that would cost under $500 and not take a ridiculus amount of time. thanx

A: “So you want more power out of your 2G turbo DSM? Make sure you learn a few things before making some common “noob” mistakes. DSM’s have a reputation of going fast for cheap. But they’re regularly neglected and have gained an unfair reputation of being unreliable. Most “noobs” want to spend all their money on go-fast parts and put no money or effort into maintenance. Don’t be one of those people. Do your maintenance and don’t start modding until all the necessary maintenance is done. Otherwise you’re just asking for trouble. “

Q: Cold air intake or short air intake for my 07 mitsubishi eclipse gs?
I have a 2007 mitsubishi eclipse gs, and i was going to order a cold air intake. Then i heard about a short air intake, and i was wondering what the difference is and which one i should get for my car?

A: I would strongly recommend getting the Cold Air Intake. The Main difference between the two, is that the short ram only comes with one pipe usually connecting from the intake manifold to the sensor, then you will replace the old filter box with the actual cone filter. The Cold air version takes it a step further by including an additional pipe which will extend from the sensor down to about the bottom of your bumper. Many will dispute the horsepower advantages of both intakes, but I like the cold air generally because it creates that deep air intake sound, and trust me you’ll love it too!

Q: Is a Mitsubishi Eclipse a good first car?
I want a used automatic Mitsubishi Eclipse for around $6,500. Do they get good gas mileage? Other cars in mind are Jeep Wrangler, Liberty, Grand Cherokee, ford Pick up, etc. any other suggestions?
Thank you for all these tips keep em’ coming and feel free to suggest a vehicle you think would be good. Any info on a Ford Focus?

A: if u like sport cars yeah they are really fun and get decent gas mileage though the insurance rates will prolly be a lil high, especially if its your first car. if you are worried about gas economy dont go with the other options you suggested!

Q: how does a convertible top on a 2005 mitsubishi eclipse hold up?
i found this 2005 mitsubishi eclipse GT spyder convertible for only $10,000 with only 30,000 miles on it. it looks like a great car im just a lil worried about the top. like does it make alot of noise? does it stay warm in the winter time? and do they tear up easily? somebody help.

A: I just purchased an ‘05 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder, and it seems great! Since I’ve only had it for less than two weeks, I’m not sure how warm it stays in the winter. But as long as you have the top covered, the noise level inside is pretty low.

Q: How many miles will a mitsubishi eclipse 2003 give me?
Ok im looking to buy a WELL maintained mitsubishi eclipse 2000-03 off of ebay. Now the carfax shows it has been well maintained and got regular oil changes and stuff, but it has 100,000 miles on it.
How long do you guys think the car will last?
I need it to last me atleast another 100,000.

A: if you take care of it and keep up the proper maintenance then it’ll stick with you for a very long time..ive got an 03 gs with 152k and its still goin strong.
