Q: do you think i am better off buying a new subaru wrx sti?
Or should i buy a 2005 model that hasnt been driven much. Or would it be worth me paying more for the new one?

A: Depends on if you want the one that has a warranty on it or if you don’t care both are awesome cars and Subaru has a really good reputation for being a dependable all around car

Q: need help with customizing my new Subaru wrx?
I just got my license and my father gave me his 02′ wrx which is blue. I love the cars power, but i dont think it is appealing at all especially its headlights. Im going to buy a cold air intake and chip, but in the terms of exterior and interior what should i do (ex; navigation, leather seats, interior color change) i want to buy new headlights and front and rear spoiler also. If you have any good suggestions it would help and if you can leave links to the sites to buy the parts…thanks.

A: a very good forum to check is nasioc.com. It’s the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club. Some the best info can be found there.

as for performance, as the guy before me said, an intake is not the best first mod, since the air has to get through the stock intercooler/piping/turbo first.

i’d suggest springing for a turboback exhaust, as this is easy to do, should make a decent power improvement for the money, and is one of the easiest ways to customise the appearance/performance with one product.

Perrin and Cobb both make good parts for Subaru, as do Whiteline.

You said you wanted new lights. Run a search for WRX JDM lights. They’re a direct swap, and look much better.

As for interior color swap, thats gonna be a bit difficult. It requires removing every peice of the interior, including things like qauges/switches, which have some pretty complicated wiring.

I would suggest you not bother with that unless you have some good help. Nav systems are easy, esp if you just want a portable to pop on the dash. Check out Best Buy, or your local car audio shop, they’ll be able to give you good info.

Leather seats are available in some upmarket Subies, such as the Legacy. Check on some forums, or your local dealer, to see whether they are a direct bolt-in replacement.

For body mods, there are two ways to go. One is the stock look, which involves keeping stock parts, but modding them subtly. (also common is swapping things like lights/bumpers for JDM or UKDM versions). Or you can go for the all-out racer look, and strap a bodykit on. Chargespeed and Do-Luck both make good products, my sister has a combination of them on her car.

On tip for bodykits, buy urethane. As the WRX is AWD, you will be tempted to offroad it a bit, or at least drive it in winter, and fibreglass kits will get destroyed doing that. Urethane is flexible, and will last longer, and look better longer.

Good luck, and feel free to message me with any questions

Q: What do you think about the new Subaru Wrx 2008???
Should i get the Subaru Wrx 2007 be4 the hideous 08 wrx comes in?

A: I like the Bugeye 02, cause that is what I had. I hate the silly form over functio hood scoop of the late versions (05-07). I think the new 08 looks more refined. Heck, the door windows are now framed. At least they will not rattle when shut. Plus, the 08 is supposed to be lighter. I would go with the 08 or find a nice 02. Either way…go with what YOU like.

Q: will the new subaru wrx 2008 come in any different trims? sti transmission?
was thing about buying the new hatch. comes in manual or auto. but with auto you cant buy the NAV. WHats the deal?

Also the new STI, still only going to come in manual?

A: I have an 08 WRX manual with Sat Nav. I understand they will release a sedan mid next year.

I was hesitant buying the hatch but I soooo wanted another Rex after going without for a few years. Anyway – now I love it. It’s a superb car – faster, more comfortable, better on rough corners and quieter (road noise wise) than either my bug-eye or my 03. Turbo lag is almost non-existent and torque is amazing.

I understand the Sti will only be in manual here in Australia. Don’t know about elsewhere but can’t imagine an auto Sti anyway. That’s sort of like showering in a raincoat!

Q: What are the new Subaru Wrx’s going to look like?
I read the motor trend article that showed (in all its horror) the new body styling of the Subaru Impreza’s, and i instantly thought to myself “Well this is the death of the WRX Sti being the coolest awd sports car of rally heritage” i got to thinking about how the Mitsubishi Lancers are one body style, but the same car as a Lancer Evo is nearly a completely different car. So perhaps the new Wrx Sti is NOT going to look like that terrible impreza they showed, that looks like some cross between a hyundia and a kia and whatever else crappy blend-into-the-crowd cars along those lines?

Because hatchbacks are not cool. The dodge magnum is a station wagon, so it has an exception. If they expect to put the Sti badge on some blobular ford-focus looking thing, then i’ll just set my sights for good on an ‘04-era Sti.

A: The WRX STI is already out in the USA and is only available as a hatchback.

I agree and think the ‘04 era is more appealing.
Unfortunately, I hate the Magnum and am glad Dodge is discontinuing them after 2008.

This is what the new STI looks like:

Q: Where can I buy a New 2004 Subaru WRX STi in Houston Texas?
Would Ebay be reliable? I have spent a week searching everywhere and still cannot find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A: You can’t buy a NEW 2004 STi anywhere, they’re all 4.5 years old at this point.

I don’t recommend eBay. I’ve got friends who have bought cars off eBay and have never found that the seller discloses everything about the car beforehand.

Look on sites like craigslist.org and Autotrader that will simply allow you to find the car but make no financial commitment to purchasing it.

Q: New subaru 2.5 wrx refinement – better than the old one?
Hi – considering purchasing a new Subaru wrx 2.5, I used to have the old model and although it was great fun with terrific handling and power I do longish motorway runs about once a month ( 1000 miles round trip) and the old 2.0 scooby was unbearable on those trips, noisy and unrefined, so much so I got rid of it in the end for a more refined car but much less fun. Have put up a photo of my old scooby on car blog at http://www.cars-stuff.co.uk/new-subaru-25-wrx-2007-version-how-good-is-it/
Any answers from new subaru owners about new cars refinement?

A: Compared to my 2.0 liter wrx, my friends new 2.5 liter wrx is noticably more refined. The newer wrx’s have more sound/vibration insulation and seem to ride smoother. The 2.5 in the new wrx’s can actually pass traffic in 5th gear now due to the low end torque. Despite its improvements, the wrx is still a bit rough around the edges (the way it was meant to be) and is probably not the best choice for a 1000 mile trip every month. Look into the legacy gt it is fast and way more refined than a wrx could ever be.

Q: who else loves the new subaru wrx sti?
i love this new sti. it brought me back into subaru after the 02-03 impreza. most people say it is ugly, but it is a great car to have.

A: The people who have them seem to like them. They are a better car all around. Check out http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-members-journals/ for some good info and pictures of the new model.

Q: WHat Should I Do to My new 2002 subaru wrx?
I just got my first car and its an automatic subaru wrx 2002 and im wondering what i should do to it aftermarket its silver and stalk

A: Great car.
Exhaust, get the most from that engine.
Dont chip it, chipping is overrated and can totally stuff it up.
Lightweight it, remove all unnessicary weight.
Increase the turbo boost.
Increase the engine cooling, and tweek the timing and other engine stuff
Make the transmission faster, lighter flywheel, driveshaft, etc.
Tyres are a good thing too, get yourself a great set.
And finally
AN AWESOME STEREO!!!!

Q: What is the max. speed & 0 – 60 time of the new Subaru Impreza WRX sti?
http://www.automobilesreview.com/uploads/2008/07/subaru-impreza-wrx-sti-rb320-794785.jpg I don’t intend to drive at high speeds in this car but it’s good to know that I have something more valuable under the hood.
Should I buy this, or a Mitsubishi Evo X?

A: Have you driven them both yet? If not, when you test drive the impreza listen for the creaks groans and rattles from the dash, especially if its a cold morning.

Honestly, they’re awful. I’ve been a Subaru man for the last 11 years and my current one will be my last.

Unless you really dont like the drive in the Mitsu I dont think you’ll buy the Impreza when you have driven them both.

0-60 is sub 5 seconds in both cars, but that doesnt make either car worth buying unless you are only intending to use them on a track.

Drive, build quality and looks go to the Mitsubishi in my book!

Good luck with your new car when you get it!

Q: classic WRX STi Vs. New Subaru Wrx Sti?
I have seen printed around many times about subaru wrx stis having much quicker 0-60mph times before 2000 than the ones after this year. why is this??

A: Stock they were about the same. They had less power but were lighter and only 5 speeds to that helps with acceleration. P properly modified GC WRX can be a much better track car than the newer ones.

Q: What type of model should I get for a new 2009 Subaru Impreza WRX?
Should I get the hatchback 5-door model or the 4-door sedan?

A: either or, great car either way. its your opinion that counts not ours.

Q: Will the price of the new 2008 subaru wrx sti go down next year this time?

A: from my knowledge, subaru isn’t making a 2008 sti model. just the wrx tr from what I know.

Q: New mitsubishi lancer evo or new subaru impreza wrx sti? Which should I buy?
any other cars with similar price and equal or better performance?

A: If you mean the Evo X, then wait and get that. But if you mean the IX, get the Sti.
